Your surgical body procedures from Camberwell Plastic Surgery

Every patient will have a notion of what they want to achieve with body contouring procedures.

The correct procedure not only depends on your desired outcome but other factors that you may not be aware of.

Some procedures are suited to certain body conditions and may cause more issues if not used in the correct circumstances.

For example, performing liposuction for abdominal contouring, where there is already lose tissue and an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) would be more appropriate and give a much better overall result.

  • Your procedure may be a combination of several techniques, best suited to achieve your ideal result.

Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most internationally requested cosmetic procedures and the popularity of liposuction (lipoplasty) is unmistakable. Liposuction removes unwanted fat from specific areas of the body, which are prone to storing pockets of fat.

At Camberwell Plastic Surgery we commonly use liposuction to improve the contours of your natural shape including areas such as the neck, upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees and calves.

Liposuction is ideal for clients who are close to their ideal body weight and have managed to sustain their current body weight for the last six months.

Body Lift

Body tissues that have been excessively stretched will lose their elastic properties and will be unable to tighten and shrink back to their original size after weight loss has been achieved. Although the fat is lost, excess skin often remains, which can be very demoralising.

A body lift (or belt lipectomy) addresses circumferential tissue at the tummy and back, removing the excess tissue and improving the contour.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) and Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)

Skin commonly loses elasticity around the arms through natural ageing or rapid weight loss. Arm lift surgery tightens and tones the upper arms, restoring a more youthful form.

A thighplasty, or thigh lift is a surgical procedure for patients who are looking to have firmer and more defined upper legs. This procedure removes excess skin to restore a pleasing and youthful body contour.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

This is a body contouring operation that improves the abdominal contour. Lower excessive abdominal tissue (or pannus) is removed and the tissue above the belly button (umblilicus) is also tightened. The flanks (or love handles) are also removed in this procedure.

Often during pregnancy, the central abdominal muscles can separate and the tough fibrous tissue between them stay stretched. This muscle separation (or divarication) can affect the muscle function, putting a strain on the core and contributing to back pain. This muscle can be placated back to their original position during an abdominoplasty.

Body Procedure FAQs

WHAT IS THIGH LIFT SURGERY?

A thigh lift, also known as thighplasty, is a procedure in which the overall appearance of the thighs is improved. During the procedure, the skin on the upper part of the inner thigh is tightened and excess skin and fat is removed to restore a more pleasing contour. The procedure is ideal for patients who want to have firmer and more defined upper legs.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THIGH LIFT SURGERY

You may experience some bruising and swelling following a thigh lift procedure. Pain is generally minimal, but it is a good idea to rest as much as possible. We recommend that you take up to a week off work following surgery. You should avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for around a month after your procedure.

WHAT DOES ARM LIFT SURGERY INVOLVE?

Arm lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty, is a procedure in which the upper arms are tightened and toned in order to restore a firmer, more youthful form. It’s a popular option for patients who have experienced a loss of skin elasticity in the arms as a result of rapid weight loss or through the natural ageing process.

HOW DOES LIPOSUCTION WORK?

Liposuction is a procedure in which fat is suctioned out of the body in order to enhance the appearance of areas such as the abdomen, buttocks, hips, knees, arms, and thighs. The procedure works by permanently reducing the number of fat cells in a particular area of the body, creating a smoother contour.

WHO IS BEST SUITED TO LIPOSUCTION?

Because the procedure is a body shaping treatment, rather than a weight-loss method, liposuction is best suited to individuals who have a stable body weight, but would like to get rid of excess pockets of fat that have proven resistant to diet and exercise. Individuals with good skin tone and elasticity generally enjoy good results from the treatment.

CAN I EXPECT ANY DISCOMFORT AFTER LIPOSUCTION?

You can expect to feel some minor pain after the procedure, and it is normal to notice some swelling and bruising at the site of treatment. These side effects should disappear within a few days following treatment, although it is a good idea to avoid heavy exercise for a few weeks while your body recovers. We recommend that you wear a compression garment after your liposuction procedure to minimise swelling and discomfort.

CAN I FALL PREGNANT AFTER A TUMMY TUCK?

You can. While a tummy tuck will not impact your fertility, it is advised that you only schedule a tummy tuck one you are finished having children as pregnancy can reverse the results of your procedure.

ARE THE RESULTS OF A TUMMY TUCK PERMANENT?

They can be. But this is entirely up to you. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle after your procedure, you can most certainly retain the results.

HOW LONG IS THE HEALING PROCESS?

Recovery from a tummy tuck surgery will take time. For many patients, the initial postoperative recovery will take about a week. A complete recovery will take about six weeks, but you’ll probably be able to return to work about 7 to 10 days after surgery and to the gym in two to three weeks.
